— -- On Monday night, "Bachelorette" fans watched Kaitlyn Bristowe accept a proposal -- and a huge diamond ring -- from Shawn Booth on the show's season finale.

However, Bristowe and Booth told ABC News that things didn't necessarily go as smoothly as it appeared on camera.

"I was pretty much numb, because I was freezing standing out there!" Bristowe said with a laugh. "I was shaking!"

"I pulled up to the house and sat in the driveway for about 45 minutes to an hour," added Booth of waiting to propose. "I went to the bathroom four or five times."

But the proposal made it worth it.

After reciting pre-written speeches to one another, Booth slipped a Neil Lane bauble on Bristowe's finger. ("It was the first one I saw and I knew that that was it," he explained of the ring.) However, they still haven't seen footage of the emotional moment.

"We thought we were going to watch it on stage [during 'After the Final Rose'] for the first time, but then producers were trying to get us on stage [and we missed it]," Booth said after his appearance on "Good Morning America." "We still haven't seen the entire thing!"

After their engagement, which took place in early May, the reality TV stars enjoyed three or four days together before they had to hide their relationship for the show. Their first night as an engaged couple took place in the same Malibu home where Booth met Bristowe's family.

"We did not sleep," she gushed. "We hung out on the beach and we were like, 'There's no cameras!' It was amazing."

The next few months were filled with secret Facetime chats and sneaky phone calls to one another. Instead of saying, "I love you," they used the code phrase, "Olive juice," and kept each other in their phones under pseudonyms.

"I have her as 'Bonnie,'" he said.

"We call each ourselves Bonnie and Clyde," she explained. "He's 'Boo-boo' in my phone, which is so cheesy!"

Now that their engagement is public, the couple are most looking forward to a date night in New York City this evening. Then, they plan to spend the next few weeks exploring one another's hometowns to determine where they'll settle, they said during their visit to "Good Morning America. After that, maybe they'll start wedding planning.

But for now, "I love the idea of just being engaged!" gushed Bristowe.
