Black Sabbath Announces Farewell Tour Dates

"It will truly be 'The End,'" a release said.

— -- It's the beginning of the end for Black Sabbath. The British heavy metal act, which originally formed in 1968, have announced initial dates for an official farewell world tour. The trek, dubbed "The End," will launch next year with a North American leg that kicks off on Jan. 20 in Omaha, Nebraska, and runs through Feb. 25 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

A total of 15 other shows in North America have been scheduled as of now, including stops in Chicago, Minneapolis, Edmonton, Vancouver, the Los Angeles area, Denver, the Detroit area, and Montreal. In addition, a brief tour of Australia and New Zealand also has been lined up in April, with additional shows in other parts of the world expected to be announced next month.

As with Black Sabbath's previous recent reunion tours, the band's lineup for "The End" will include three of the group's four original members -- singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, and bassist Geezer Butler.

According to the official tour announcement, the farewell trek "promises to surpass all previous tours with [the band's] most mesmerizing production ever." The statement also insists that "when this tour concludes, it will truly be 'The End.'"
