— -- Catwoman, the Batman villain/love interest, has come out as bisexual.

In the Catwoman No. 39 comic book, which was released this week, the character also known as Selina Kyle kisses another woman.

The writer of the issue, Genevieve Valentine, addressed the development in a post on her website.

Valentine wrote, "She’s flirted around it -- often quite literally -- for years now; for me, this wasn’t a revelation so much as a confirmation."

"[P]lease be assured that Selina’s longstanding connection to Batman has not been forgotten; that is not how bisexuality (or humanity) works," she continued. "Selina doesn’t care easily, but when she does care it strikes deep, and there will be plenty of that coming up."

Catwoman was introduced in Batman No. 1 in 1940, the year after the Caped Crusader made his comic debut.
