Oct. 28, 2014— -- intro: At 69, Helen Mirren has become the newest face for French cosmetics company L'Oreal.

Along with other over-50 female stars, Mirren is helping change the standard of beauty.

Gone are the days when actress Isabella Rossellini was dropped by Lancome at age 40, reportedly for being too old. These days, celebrity brand ambassadors actually look like the mature women they are meant to represent.

And most of these over-50 stars take a down-to-earth approach to aging, like Mirren.

"I am not gorgeous, I never was, but I was always OK-looking and I'm keen to stay that way," the Dame said in a statement about her new partnership with the French brand. "I hope I can inspire other women towards greater confidence by making the most of their natural good looks. We are all worth it!"

The Oscar winner, who has found a new level of success late in life, has previously described aging as the "adventure of life." In 2011, she said, "The weird thing is you get more comfortable in yourself, even as time is giving you less reason for it."

Check out some other over-50 stars who are changing the face of beauty.
