Bruce and Kris Jenner announced Tuesday night that they'd separated after 22 years of marriage. "We are living separately and we are much happier this way," the couple of more than two decades told E! News in a statement. "But we will always have much love and respect for each other. Even though we are separated, we will always remain best friends, and as always, our family will remain our No. 1 priority."
For fans of the famous couple (and their reality series, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians"), the separation wasn't so surprising. Here are a few reasons why.
They Weren't Living Together
As depicted on their reality show, the olympian had been spending all of his time at a Malibu beach house, while the Kardashian matriarch lived in the couple's Hidden Hills mansion. "I'm not for that, but you know, to each their own," Kris's daughter Khloé said in June. "I don't compare relationships. I just think a little too much time apart maybe isn't the best thing."

In recent episodes of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," Kris had tensions with Bruce's mother and his son from a previous marriage, Brody, 30. While on vacation in Greece, Brody confronted Kris about her lavish lifestyle. "I'm gonna be totally, brutally honest with you," he said, ultimately driving Kris to tears. "You need to look at yourself and think, 'Are these things really what's important in life?'"
They Kept Secrets from Each Other
"Keeping Up With the Kardashians" often features members of the famous family keeping secrets from each other, but sometimes the couple seemed to take things too far. In one episode, Kris got upset when Bruce surreptitiously installed a putting green in the backyard, and in another, Bruce got annoyed when Kris destroyed the gun he kept in the house.
Kris Seemed Embarrassed by Bruce
Both Kris and Bruce get made fun of on their reality series, but Kris sometimes seemed genuinely embarrassed by her husband. Despite her daughters' praises of Bruce's recent appearance on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," Kris felt compelled to go on his show and apologize on his behalf. "He totally took over your show," she said. "When he got home, I actually had to ban him from all talk shows."
They Had Less Time to Spend Together
When the family first appeared on TV, Kris was only managing the careers of Bruce and her daughter, Kim, 32, but now, she's also helping guide the careers of her daughters with the Olympian, Kendall, 17, and Kylie, 16, as well as her kids from her first marriage, Kourtney, 34, Khloé, 29, and Rob, 26. "It took a toll on their relationship," a source told People magazine.
