— -- Kirk Douglas celebrated a milestone birthday in style.

The actor turned 100 years old Friday and feted the occasion with members of his famous family and friends at the Beverly Hills Hotel in California.

Douglas' son, Michael, and daughter-in-law Catherine Zeta-Jones, were at the glamorous affair with their children, Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta. And of course, Douglas' wife of more than six decades, Anne, was by his side for the occasion.

More than 100 guests gathered in the hotel's Sunset Room to celebrate Douglas' birthday, reports People magazine. Comedian Don Rickles, director Steven Spielberg and director Jeff Kanew, who worked with Douglas in "Tough Guys," were in attendance.

The room was filled with childhood photos of Douglas, according to photographs. And clips from some of Douglas' best films -- "Spartacus," "Lust for Life," and "Paths of Glory" -- played during the party.

Before Zeta-Jones lit 12 birthday candles and led the party in a rendition of "Happy Birthday," Douglas' son, Michael, along with others, toasted the actor.

"One of the things that I find most incredible about dad is the third act of his life," Michael Douglas said during his speech, according to the AP.

"After all he accomplished in his professional career and what he's given for his country," he continued, "at the point in his life where he's faced adversity, losing a son, having a helicopter crash, having a stroke, and what he's accomplished in this third act in his life, I find quite extraordinary."

Douglas also addressed the crowd in brief remarks in which he jokingly said, "My three boys got together and they took a vote and they decided that Michael would be the host because, after all, he has the most money."
