April 22, 2014 -- Most of Louis C.K.'s jokes are tailored to an adult audience.

However, the comedian's two young daughters help him craft them, he said.

"They do surprise you. When my older daughter was about 8, I showed her the routine where I get explosively angry because she sucks at hide-and-seek," he told GQ magazine. "She thought it was hilarious. My girls and I make a lot of dark jokes together."

Why Louis C.K. Is Eating His Words About Bradley Cooper

C.K., whose next season of the FX show "Louie" premieres May 5, doesn't often speak about his personal life, much less his daughters. C.K. was married to their mother, artist Alix Bailey, but they split in 2008. However, as was the case with his short-lived HBO show, "Lucky Louie," the comedian, 46, still mines his personal life for jokes and funny anecdotes.

"In the upcoming season [of Louie], there's a line from a conversation I had with my older girl. She was saying how whenever she sees a three-legged dog, it lifts her spirits, because three-legged dogs are wonderfully unaware that they have a malady," he said. "And I said, 'You know, honey, they are lucky. But do you know the only thing luckier than a three-legged dog? A four-legged dog.' And she really laughed."

"Whenever she laughs that hard at something dark? I know it's good," he added.
