— -- Ryan Reynolds is speaking up in defense of his daughter's name.

Reynolds and wife Blake Lively welcomed their daughter James into the world in December 2014.

In an interview with ITV's "Good Morning Britain" today, Reynolds explained that James is named after Reynold's late father, and the "Deadpool" actor defended his choice to use a name traditionally given to boys.

"In the spectrum of weird celebrity baby names, I feel like we're not really breaking any new ground here," Reynolds said. "I mean, I didn't call her Summer Squash Meadow Lark, or something."

Reynolds, finding humor in the baby-name controversy, later joked about other baby name possibilities that he ultimately ruled out.

"I also thought of all the letters being silent in her name, so it would be just be 'Haa,'" Reynolds said.

Reynolds, 39, also opened up about how "fun" being a father has been, and revealed that baby James is "teething at the moment."

"I love being a father. I don't want to be one of those celebs who talks about being a parent like they're the only person in the world who has ever done it," Reynolds said. "It's the most common thing in the world but the most profound. It's super fun. I just love it."

Reynolds and Lively married in 2012. While James is the first child for both Reynolds and Lively, the couple has been vocal about having more children in the future.
