— -- Earlier this week, "Suicide Squad" star Scott Eastwood told GQ Australia that an ex-girlfriend died years earlier in a car accident.

"There was a recall on airbags," he told the magazine. "Her airbag exploded. It shot a projectile through her body. It split her spine, and, um ... I’ve never told anybody that."

The 30-year-old actor added that he never called the father of his ex, Jewel Brangman, after the 2014 accident because it was too difficult.

People magazine recently spoke to Alexander Brangman, who said Eastwood finally called him Tuesday, two years after his daughter's untimely death.

"Quite frankly, I was hurt by it," Brangman told People of Eastwood's not calling after the accident. "I was disappointed he didn't come to her celebration of life ... there wasn't even a flower sent."

On Tuesday, Brangman said, Eastwood apologized for his actions.

"He said, 'I didn't reach out because I didn't know what to say,'" the father said. "I was angry — but everybody grieves differently. You know, he's a kid too. I didn't know what his grieving process is. I'd like to get to know more of what he went through, because that's a difficult thing."

Brangman said he hopes to help the young actor finally grieve.

"If we do get together, that could be something interesting. If he wants to confide in me the struggles he's been going through in regards to their relationship and her passing, I'll be more than glad to counsel him," he said.

Brangman also got a chance to shed light on his very accomplished young daughter, who had earned a master's degree from Hofstra University in New York and was planning to get her Ph.D.

"I couldn't be prouder of what I brought into the world and more devastated that her time was cut so short," he said.
