'Star Trek Beyond' Lands in First Place at Weekend Box Office

The third movie in the rebooted Star Trek franchise earned an estimated $59.6 million to open in first place.

"Star Trek Beyond" was directed by Justin Lin, who took over the reins from J.J. Abrams. The movie features Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, John Cho and the late Anton Yelchin, plus newcomer to the series Idris Elba.

After two weeks in first place, the animated hit "The Secret Life of Pets" slipped to second place, collecting $29.3 million.

The new horror flick "Lights Out" tied for third place with "Ghostbusters;" both made $21.6 million.

"Ice Age: Collision Course" followed with a $21 million debut.
