Stars Celebrate Dakota Pipeline Protesters' Victory

— -- Stars took to social media to celebrate Sunday's announcement that the U.S. Department of the Army will not approve an easement for the Dakota Access Pipeline to cross under Lake Oahe in North Dakota and cited a need to explore alternative routes.

The decision comes after months of protests by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, environmental activists and allies which included some violent clashes between demonstrators and police. Shailene Woodley, who joined the protests early on and was arrested in October during a demonstration, was among those celebrating at the Standing Rock reservation.

"soooo how many #NoDAPL babies you think are going to be made tonight?!" she posted on Twitter.

She also posted a video on Facebook Sunday night, writing, "ARMY CORPS!!!!! WATER PROTECTORS!!! MAHALO!!!!.

"This is a huge moment," Woodley said in the video. "It's a good day. It's not the end. It's the beginning."

Mark Ruffalo, another celebrity who has visited the site and brought attention to the cause of the pipeline protesters, posted a celebratory statement on Instagram, saying in part, "we can rejoice today because together we created greater justice in the world."

In an Instagram video, Ruffalo thanked "dear President Obama" and the Army Corps of Engineers and said the U.S. should become a "leader in renewable energy" and learn from indigenous people how to live sustainably on the Earth without doing harm to the environment.

He also posted a picture, which he captioned "rebirth of a nation."
