— -- Amy Winehouse's early vocal talent is on display in a new a clip from "Amy," the upcoming critically acclaimed documentary about the late singer.

In the clip from the film, which hits theaters July 3, a 14-year-old Winehouse can be seen belting out "Happy Birthday" at friend Lauren Gilbert's birthday party in North London in 1998.

Wearing a black tank-top and waving a lollipop, Winehouse shows off her already amazing singing abilities while adding a bit of show-business flair.

The birthday party footage is just a snippet of some of the never-before-seen home videos and footage that make up "Amy." Director Asif Kapadia also acquired video of Winehouse in her prime, including footage of her in the studio during her "Back to Black" sessions.

Divided into two parts, the film shows the rise of a young, funny, sometimes shy Winehouse into a star and her heartbreaking descent into a drugged-fueled spiral that ended with her 2011 death from alcohol poisoning at age 27. It also tackles her tumultuous relationship with husband Blake Fielder-Civil, her complicated relationship with her father, Mitch Winehouse, and her little-known struggle with bulimia.

"It's quite visceral," Kapadia told Rolling Stone. "Through the tabloids, her life became a joke, and she was a sensitive soul. She wasn't confident enough to deal with these issues."

Though the documentary has already received rave reviews at the recent Cannes Film Festival, it is not without controversy. Before the Cannes' premiere, the family released a statement saying they "disassociate themselves" from the film.

"They feel that the film is a missed opportunity to celebrate her life and talent and that it is both misleading and contains some basic untruths," the statement read.
