Aug. 26, 2014— -- intro: So much for the saying, you might as well be dead in Hollywood if you're a woman over 40.

Not only did women over 40 sweep every major acting award at Monday's 66th annual Emmy Awards, they managed to show up their younger counterparts on the red carpet.

In the drama category, "Good Wife" star Julianna Margulies, 48, took home the award for lead actress, while Anna Gunn, 46, nabbed the best supporting actress trophy for the final season of "Breaking Bad."

On the comedy side, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, 54, won best actress for her role in HBO’s "Veep," while Allison Janney, 54, picked up two Emmys, for best supporting actress for CBS' "Mom," and her guest appearance on Showtime's "Masters of Sex."

In the miniseries or movie category, actresses over 60 dominated, with Jessica Lange, 65, winning best actress for "American Horror Story: Coven," and her co-star, Kathy Bates, 66, winning for best supporting actress.

"Forty is the new 25 in Hollywood," Sharon Waxman, the founder and editor-in-chief of TheWrap, told ABC News. "We have these actresses who look incredible for any age. They have to appear on these screens in HD ... and they totally stand the test of the camera."
