Sflmplt we move to the delivery room surprise that stunned a Mississippi couple and their doctor. Kimberly Fugate gave birth to identical quadruplets. They were expecting triplets. Reporter: From the start of her pregnancy, Kimberly Fugate learned to expect the unexpected while expecting. One surprise after another. Reporter: Not only was the pregnancy unplanned, she delivered three months early after the initial surprise that she was having triplets. It doesn't end there. The doctors told her as they were performing the c-section, they had gotten the number of babies wrong. They had delivered three babies and I heard them say, extra feet pip was like, no. Reporter: That's right. Four baby girls, all relatively healthy considering they were born at just 28 week. It's unusual they were conceived without medical intervention and more so that all four girls are identical. The chances of having identical quadruplets, it's almost incalculable. Reporter: 1 in 13 million. Only 60 cases documented. The newborns -- kenleigh, Kristen, Kayleigh, and Kelsey, continue to develop. Mom is staying nearby at the Ronald McDonald house. It haven't gotten to hold them yet. It will be excited to hold them and love them. Reporter: For "Good morning America," linsey Davis, ABC news, New York. Oh, look at them. Rich Besser, our chief health and medical editor here right now. One of them. No, no, no, no, please. No, you're the doctor. You get the honorary stethoscope today. I just happened to be paying attention in class that day. This is rare, yes, it is. But the fact that you realize that it wasn't -- done artificially because the fact that -- Exactly. When cow hear multiple births, you thing this has to have been fertility drugs. They'll cause you to have more babies because it releases more eggs. But for this, one egg had to divide three times after it was fertilized. It's incredible. It's got to be incredibly rare. We only know of about 60 of 70 times this has ever occurred. It's pretty miraculous. Thinking she's having triplets and there's one more. I think there's some doctors a little embarrassed about this. Because she had been getting care. They had been getting ultrasounds. They only saw three. There's not a lot of space. You're looking at 2-d images of a 3-d space. Give them a break. I feel bad for dad and mom who probably had a heart attack. In the best way. An extra blessing. Congratulations, mom and dad.
