Transcript for Tornado Survivor: 'It Was Loud, and Then a Very Eerie Calm'
but scores and scores of home and the swath of destruction including that of the lejet Jason rushed his family into their storm cellar while capturing the tornado roaring towards them on camera. Take a look at those final moments. And then moments after that tornado moved over his home. Oh, my. The lord giveth, and the lord taketh away. Eerie calm in jason's voice belying the destruction he saw, looked nothing like the home he was taking cover under. He joins us now and, jason, as we saw that tornado moving, we heard reports of anywhere from 8 to 15 minutes who people had warning that this twister had touched down. How much warning did you and your family have? Well, we were listening to it on the radio and on tv, and i actually did very really clear shot of seeing it out in my front yard so watched the rotation for quite a while then told everybody to get in the cellar then watched it a little bit being close to the cellar and obviously had to jump inside. And so you did. With your wife, your fourn CHILDREN, McKENNY, JET, HUDDEN And madison. As you huddled inside, what was it like as the tornado hovered over you? It's a lot like what everyone seems to describe, the pressure is unbelievable inside. We actually had concrete dust and things coming through the vents, it was loud and then it was very eerie calm whenever it finally went across. So -- and it was, you know -- you had to make a decision when to open the door and we waited a little bit, opened the door and saw what we saw. We've seen so many children who have had to endure this. What was it like for your four kids? They were nervous. There's no doubt. They had tears streaming. They were trying to keep it together and my wife was trying to keep them together and we were just all huddled down there and whenever it finally hit, my wife just said, it's here. And my daughter said something about our house and then before we even opened the door my wife said, honey, there is no house and we confirmed that after we looked outside. And we are seeing that right now, in fact, we're hearing you say the lord giveth and the lord taketh it away as you survey the damage. When that cellar door opened and you saw what you saw, it looks like a war zone and a moonscape. What did you think when you saw it? I was actually a little shocked at the damage, that it was quite that bad because the tornado -- I actually saw it form all the way to the ground and, of course, it wasn't very big then but it obviously grew exponentially while I was in the cellar just in those few short mens because whenever I came out, it was just extremely wide as far as the damage path. Well, jason, we know you faced so much now. You and your family. We are so very thankful that you and your family are okay this morning and we so very much appreciate your time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your friends and neighbors there in moore, oklahoma. Thank you for joining us this morning. All right, thank you.
