Veteran actor Angela Lansbury picked up her latest award over the course of a long and storied career, receiving an Order of the British Empire from the queen at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.

The 88-year-old British-American stage and screen actress, who starred in the long-running TV series "Murder She Wrote," was awarded the title for her services to drama and charity. The medal will be a nice little addition to the honorary Oscar, Tony Awards and Golden Globes already in the trophy cabinet.

title: Crisis and Violence in Nigeria

text: Less than one day after a bus station bombing killed 75 people in Nigeria’s capital, suspected Islamist militants kidnapped 100 schoolgirls in the northeast, adding to the surge in violence and insecurity plaguing Africa’s most populous nation, the AP reported.

In Tuesday’s midnight attack, gunmen abducted the teenage girls, killing a soldier and a police officer guarding a school in Chibok in the process. Some of the girls escaped by jumping off the slow-moving truck they were taken on, according to the AP.

The Boko Haram terrorist network, thought to be behind both attacks this week, have killed more than 1,500 people this year alone. The incidents have raised renewed concerns that the government is unable to contain an Islamist uprising in the state.
