No. 59 recruit Feleipe' Franks decommits from LSU
— -- With uncertainty swirling about the future of coach Les Miles, LSU received bad news on Monday night as the 59th-ranked prospect in the ESPN 300, quarterback Feleipe' Franks, backed off of his verbal commitment to the Tigers.
Franks, a 6-foot-6, 219-pound pocket passer from Wakulla High School (Crawfordville, Florida), had been committed to the Tigers since June 2014 and said he had been reconsidering the decision for about a month while discussing it with LSU.
"I have given this process a lot of thought and feel that it is only best for me to make my decommitment public," Franks said in a statement posted to his Twitter account. "I want to thank the LSU coach, staff and the amazing fans for all of their support."
Franks has taken two unofficial visits to Florida in the past month and has another trip to Gainesville scheduled for this weekend when the Gators take on Florida State.
The Gators appear to now be in the driver's seat for the talented signal-caller, but Florida State is also in the mix.
LSU, meanwhile, currently has the No. 1-ranked recruiting class, but the loss of Franks is a big blow. The Tigers still have 18 verbal commitments, including 13 that are ranked in the ESPN 300. But LSU has no other quarterbacks committed.
There are several players in the top 50 of the ESPN 300 who are still considering LSU, including five-star prospects Rashard Lawrence and Willie Allen, as well as linebacker Rahshaun Smith, defensive back Kristian Fulton and Shyheim Carter.
The future of LSU's recruiting class could depend on how things play out with Miles.
