— -- The Miami Dolphins will try a unique approach to rookie minicamp under first-year head coach Adam Gase.

First-year players will not participate in on-field drills and will put all of their focus on mental preparation during the three-day camp that runs May 6-8.

The news was first reported by the Miami Herald.

Rookie players go through a gantlet of workouts, interviews and the NFL combine during the pre-draft process. Gase, therefore, thought it would be a good idea to give Miami's first-year players a chance to rest their bodies before taking the field with the Dolphins.

Also, the team believes the extensive classroom study and playbook installation will get its rookies up to speed faster.

The highlight of Miami's rookie class is offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil, the Dolphins' first-round pick. The team began its offseason program on April 11.
