— -- Los Angeles Rams coach Jeff Fisher has signed a contract extension, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Rams general manager Les Snead also has signed an extension, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fisher's new deal extends his contract by two seasons.?The Rams did not want Fisher to enter 2016 as a lame-duck coach, sources told ESPN, so the sides agreed to the extension at the start of the season.

"Been done for a while," a source said.

Sources have told ESPN that they believe the deal includes a team option for the Rams, who still could part ways with Fisher after the season and owe him only one year of salary.

Los Angeles has not officially announced Fisher's extension, which was first reported by NFL Network. His contract was scheduled to expire after the season.

Fisher, who has led the Rams to a 4-7 record this season and is 31-43-1 with the franchise, helped the transition as the team moved from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2016.

He is 173-163-1 in his career. Fisher is three defeats away from passing Dan Reeves for most career losses by an NFL coach.
