70 Percent of Snapchat Users Are Women
The popular app processes about 400 million photos a day.
Nov. 21, 2013— -- Snapchat, the photo-messaging app that deletes your pictures and videos shortly after they're viewed, seems to appeal to women more than men.
Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel said in the Wall Street Journal that approximately 70 percent of the app's users were women, but he said little else about Snapchat's user base, including just how many people use the app.
But Snapchat is proud to say just how often the app is used. The company is said to process around 400 million photos and videos a day. While that number may be inflated (Snapchat counts one photo sent to five people as five processed photos), the app is still very popular. The analytics firm Onavo estimates that more than 20 percent of all iPhones have downloaded Snapchat.
It's not just smartphone users who are paying attention to Snapchat. The company rejected a $3 billion offer from Facebook and a reported $4 billion offer from Google.
Facebook's popularity with teenagers seems to be dropping, and Snapchat might be picking up this disgruntled crowd. The photo-sharing app has quickly turned into a must-have for teenagers with smartphones.
Snapchat did not initially respond to ABC News' request for comment.
