April 9, 2013— -- If warmer weather and deeper pockets have you hoping for a vacation, read on. According to the IRS, data for the week ending March 29 shows the average 2013 tax refund is $2,790 – plenty of money to blow on a fabulous vacation.

Forty-four percent of respondents to a survey by Travel Leaders Group said they would spend at least part of their tax refund on travel. And 27 percent they would spend "all of it" on a trip.

There are countless vacations that cost less than the average refund, but we've picked five to give you an idea of just how far that money can take you. From a spa getaway in the Adirondacks to a Bahamas cruise to South America, here's five places your 2013 tax refund can take you.

Tokyo Express Tour from Friendly Planet

With plenty of departure dates to pick from for this whirlwind tour of Tokyo at $1899 including airfare, this package from Friendly Planet is a huge value that leaves you with money left over from your tax refund. The cheapest departure dates are September 3 and 24, but there are also July and August departures that come in well under the $2,790 average tax refund.

Included in the tour is round-trip, non-stop flights from Los Angeles on Singapore Air, five nights' accommodations and buffet breakfast daily.

Spa Getaway in Lake Placid, New York

After the taxes are filed and the refund's on the way, who couldn't use a little pampering? The Mirror Lake Inn, a luxury hotel in New York's Adirondacks, offers a 3-for-2 spa deal this spring. The three-night hotel stay includes a free night and one spa service per person per day. Choose from massage, facials, reflexology, a sugar scrub, manicures, pedicures and more. The price is $1,010 for accommodations in a Noomark room; add $50 per night for a Friday or Saturday night stay. The spa at Mirror Lake Inn Resort & Spa – itself a AAA Four Diamond Award recipient -- is routinely named one of the best in the country.

10-Day Brazil and Argentina Tour

If South America has been on your bucket list, you can hit several of the highlights on one trip with this offer from Living Social Escapes. The ten-day package is priced from $2,299 and includes round-trip airfare from Miami, ground transportation, hotel accommodations, eight breakfasts and two dinners. The price, however, is based on double occupancy, so you'll have to find a friend willing to spend their refund too. Plus, look closely at departure dates and remember the seasons are flipped in South America – fall here, when the price is available, is spring there.

Three-Night Disney Cruise

A three-night cruise on the Disney Dream to the Bahamas prices out at $2,421 for a family of four on the Disney Cruise Line web site. The cruise is round-trip from Port Canaveral, Fla., and accommodations are in a deluxe oceanview stateroom with a verandah. The price includes government taxes and fees but does not include airfare to Port Canaveral. The price of $2,421 is for a May 2 departure; other possible departure dates with prices less than the average tax refund are May 9 and May 16.

Memorial Day Weekend at Nobu Hotel, Las Vegas

Sin City's hottest new hotel is open for business, and there's no better weekend to head to Vegas than Memorial Day when the party scene will be in full mode. A rate check on the Nobu Hotel at Ceasars Palace web site revealed a four-night stay over the holiday weekend could be had for as little as $1,216, including the $25 daily resort fee. Accommodations are in a Nobu Deluxe King room for Thursday May 30 through Monday June 3; the Luxury King Room is also available for about $150 more total.
