April 18, 2013— -- A Carnival cruise ship briefly lost power at sea Wednesday evening, the cruise line said.

Carnival Ecstasy was on the last leg of a five-day cruise when a mechanical problem caused it to lose power for approximately 12 minutes. All hotel services and propulsion were quickly restored last night, the cruise line told ABC News.

The ship arrived in Port Canaveral, Fla., at about 8:30 Thursday morning. It did not miss any ports of call.

The ship departed Port Canaveral on Saturday, April 13. The ship is expected to depart Thursday for its next cruise, a four-day voyage to the Bahamas, as scheduled.

Carnival Ecstasy carries approximately 2,000 passengers and 920 crew members. It made its first voyage in 1991 and was refurbished in 2009.

In 1998 a fire onboard the ship caused minor injuries to 14 crew members and eight passengers, and "extensive damage." Its probable cause was welding by crew members in the main laundry room, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

The power outage on the Ecstasy is the latest in a series of bad news for the cruise line, which began with an engine room fire and resulting power outage on the Carnival Triumph in February, which left 4,000 passengers and crew stranded at sea for several days.
