— -- The 1 percent does not like walking on hot sand.

That's why one Florida hotel has started spraying the hot sand with cool water on the path to the lounge chairs.

"Wetting the pathway from the property lowers the temperature of the sand by 35 to 40 degrees," said Brock Talbot, a spokesman for the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island, where room rates range from $269 to $719 this weekend. "This makes it much more comfortable for guests to walk to the ocean or to their beach cabana."

Now, they can take their time instead of hot-footing it down the beach. The hotel's been spraying the sand for the last 10 days.

"Guests have been really appreciative of the gesture," Talbot said. "They aren’t sprinting across the sand to reach the water’s edge like before. It’s one of those small niceties that guests really notice."
