"Entering the world of hospitality was very important to my family as it's very similar to the world of fashion, giving us the opportunity to create a different experience and lasting memories," Leonardo Ferragamo, Salvatore Ferragamo's son and the company president, said on the hotel web site.

And fashion is very much at the forefront of the individual hotels. The Portrait Hotel near Rome's Spanish Steps liken its suites to a fashion studio. And at Florence's Gallery Hotel Art, the the hotel is described as a "favorite local meeting place in the heart of Florence amongst fashion, art, and stylish people."

Oscar de la Renta, a native of the D.R., designed the hotels interiors and brings the same luxurious touches to the villas as he does to his clothing designs. Guests can expect Frette linens and L'Occitane amenities in the plantation-style digs.

The resort is also home to de la Renta's first resort boutique. But instead of couture, you'll find casual apparel, resort wear, accessories and home décor. media: 22447704

quicklist: 3title: Bulgari Hotels & Resortstext: With several locations -- including Milan, London, Bali and a to-be-opened property in Shanghai -- Bulgari Hotels & Resorts are luxury all the way. But you may not know the brand is owned by a far more common name: Marriott. The brand was introduced in 2001 and is a joint venture between Bulgari S.p.A., the celebrated jeweler and luxury goods retailer, and the Luxury Group, a division of Marriott International. And Armani personally designed each element of the brand's two properties -- one in Milan and the other in Dubai. The rooms in Milan are said to embody the "hallmarks of the Armani brand: elegance, comfort and sophistication" while those in Dubai reflect "understated elegance." media: 22463366

quicklist: 5title: Missoni -- Hotel Missoni text: With locations in Kuwait and Edinburgh, Hotel Missoni turns understated elegance on its head and instead goes for the bold patterns and bright colors the designer is known for.
