April 15, 2014— -- intro: One year ago, on April 15, 2013, two explosions went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The deadly blasts, which took three lives and injured hundreds more, set into motion a days-long search for the perpetrators.

On April 18, the FBI released images of two suspects, brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Soon thereafter, an MIT police officer was killed, a car was hijacked, and a shootout with law enforcement ensued. The older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed in the pursuit. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured, injured but alive, in Watertown on April 19.

Here, a look back at the chaos as it unfolded over the course of those five days.
