— -- A North Carolina highway was bombarded with potatoes early Friday morning after some 50,000 pounds of spuds spilled from a truck, according to troopers. The pileup was so enormous, the highway had to be shut down.

The driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel on Interstate 77 in Charlotte around 2 a.m. and crashed into a concrete barrier, sending tens of thousands of potatoes all over the road.

ABC affiliate WSOC in Charlotte reported that the driver received only minor injuries.

Troopers said crews will clean up the massive mess by noon.
