1. 38 Die in Mental Hospital Fire in Russia

A fire swept quickly through a psychiatric hospital outside Moscow, housing patients with severe mental disorders, early today, killing 38 people, most of them in their beds, officials said. A nurse and two patients are said to be the only survivors.

2. Researches Track Evolution of Philly Accent

A University of Pennsylvania linguistics professor says the Southern-inflected sound of the Philadelphia dialect is moving toward a more Northern accent.

3. Death Toll Rises in Bangladesh Building Collapse

The collapse of a garment factory building near Bangladesh's capital, which caused the death of more than 290 workers, is renewing attention on the unsafe conditions in the country's $20 billion industry that supplies clothing retailers around the world.

4. Churchill to Appear on £5 Notes

Sir Winston Churchill is to appear on the next five-pound note, the Governor of the Bank of England, Sir Mervyn King, announced today.

5. Boston Donations Surge

The Boston bombing victims are facing a rough and expensive road to recovery ahead, but friends and strangers are already setting up online fundraisers and events that are bringing in massive numbers to help cover medical expenses. One Boston city fund has collected more than $23 million in individual and corporate donations.
