— -- A baseball fan nearly struck out when proposing to his girlfriend last night at the New York Yankees game.

Andrew Fox dropped the ring as he was about to propose, and the entire incident was broadcast on the stadium's screen.

Fox said in an interview after the game that "as soon as I opened up the ring box it just instantly popped out."

He added, "Everyone around us was so nice and was helping us, like really wanting to find it as much as we were."

When Fox pulled the ring from his pocket and dropped to one knee before Terwilliger to propose during the fifth inning of the Yankees' game, the ring dropped to the ground. After about five minutes, Terwilliger looked down and saw something shiny in the cuff of her pants leg.

Fellow fans sitting in Fox's section combed the ground for the ring. Fox said he became worried that it would never be found.

"I was starting to think, 'Oh no, if we don't find this it will be the biggest fail in history,'" he said.

Fox's girlfriend, Heather Terwilliger added, "I didn't know what to think, I started panicking, it was all a really big shock to me, but I'm glad we found it."

Eventually, the couple spotted the ring in the cuff of Terwilliger's pants. The crowd cheered as if Fox had hit a home run.

Terwilliger said "Yes."
