What happened to abcdude?

I first joined Twitter well over a year ago, when I was doing an interview with @mchammer . I needed to sign-up fast, and for some reason “abcdude” was the first thing I could come up with. It was kind of catchy in a nerdy sort of way. And then @mchammer said it out-loud, and I thought that was cool, because @mchammer can make a lot of things sound cool when he says them out-loud. So I went through my twitter-life as “abcdude,” and all was seemingly good. But then other people at ABC started getting on twitter, and all of a sudden there were a lot of ABC dudes tweeting, even if they were doing so by other names. Occasionally people would get me confused with guys like @danbharris, and when he would do good pieces, people would send me notes. While I need all the help I can get, I don’t want the credit when Dan is the one hugging the Koala bear. (that is not a euphemism, unless you want it to be… Dan actually just did a piece where he hugs a koala bear.) (Oh, and by the way, if you want a cheat sheet to tell Dan and me apart…one of us has won Emmy’s, is short, and likes cats…and the other one is me.) The other thing is that my wife, who is perfect and infinitely cooler and classier than I am, never really liked the “abcdude” name. She has put up with me for a long long time, and listens to all my jokes without smacking me and never really asks for anything. So I figured this was a small sacrifice to make on her behalf. So there was all that, and the fact that thought maybe it was a good idea to have a twitter identity that could be directly associated with me. To my dismay, my first choice for a handle, “@Parker/Spitzer,” was already taken. So my next choice was @berman14. The 14 is for Jim Rice, who had more influence on my life than any left-fielder ever should. So please stick with @berman14. I promise the jokes won’t get any better, nor the journalism more insightful. So what do you have to lose?
