To the latest on the mysterious outbreak of that tropical stomach illness, the number of known cases is rising spreading to more than 300 people in 15 states. The cause is some sort of contaminated food but the source of the outbreak is still unknown so let's bring in our abc ned wa medical director richard besser. Is the cdc close to finding out. They're getting closer. This is really difficult. It's caused by something called cyclospora which is a parasite and what makes it so hard to investigate is that it takes at least a week from eating this to getting sick and so they're asking people about things they ate many, many weeks ago. There are four states affected most. Take a look at this map, iowa, nebraska, texas and florida. Are getting nailed really badly. The other states, small numbers. So what do people need to know this morning and is there anything we can do to prevent this? The good news is that everyone who got sick started being ill in d-june to early july so what they're finding now is people whose illness has continued. If you have any of the symptoms, watery diarrhea with cramping, bloating, weight loss, you need to get tested and treated because symptoms can continue without the proper antibiotic. We keep hearing about these issues with food over and over and over again, rich. Is there anything that's being done on a larger scale to prevent these outbreaks. On this finally good news.
