— -- With a little help from friendly hospital staff, a terminally ill man was able to have the "best day" of his life and marry his girlfriend in his hospital room.

Keith Borum and Nina Scott were married yesterday at the Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, New York. Nina Scott, now Borum, said even in the unusual setting she found the wedding perfect.

"The whole thing was great. I don’t know what my favorite moment was," said Nina Borum. "I couldn't imagine how great it could be or would be. The staff just outdid themselves ... We couldn't have done it no better."

Nurses and other medical staff at the hospital helped make the wedding more special by finding people to donate flowers, cake and rings.

The couple who have been together for three years were surrounded by friends and family all wearing protective blue medical gowns over their clothes to protect Keith Borum against infection.

Borum has been battling non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for about 18 months, according to ABC station WABC. Earlier this year he ended up in the ER due to pain in his abdomen that turned out to be a cancerous mass.

"He’s been really going through so much and he can’t walk," said Nina Borum. "It’s hard on him. He’s really hard...It’s just sunk his spirit."

But on his wedding day Keith Borum was able to lighten the mood by stealing his new wife's sunglasses.

Sitting in his hospital bed Keith Borum told WABC that in spite of his terminal diagnosis he was enjoying "the best day of my life."
