The family of former Israeli president and prime minister Shimon Peres confirmed his death on Sept. 28, 2016. During the course of his political career in Israel, he served in a multitude of roles that included prime minister, defense minister and president. During his time as foreign minister in the 1990s, he played a crucial role in the peace talks with Palestinians that resulted in the Oslo Accords and a shared Nobel Peace Prize.
